Yoga Poses for Beginners
Yoga is an ancient practice that combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation to promote overall health and well-being. You do not need to be flexible or in great shape to start. Yoga meets you exactly where you are. Mountain pose is the foundation of all standing poses. Stand with your feet together or hip-width apart, distribute your weight evenly, and engage your thigh muscles. Downward-facing dog stretches the hamstrings, calves, and shoulders while building upper body strength. Start on your hands and knees, tuck your toes, and lift your hips toward the ceiling. Child pose is a resting position that gently stretches the hips, thighs, and ankles. Kneel on the floor, touch your big toes together, sit on your heels, and fold forward. Cat-cow pose improves spine flexibility and relieves back tension. Warrior pose builds leg strength and opens the hips. Corpse pose at the end of practice allows your body to fully relax and integrate the benefits of your practice. Hold each pose for five to ten breaths and never push through pain.
